Penile lengthening or penile enlargement surgery (Aesthetic penoplasty)

Intimate surgery

Some men can be frustrated by the size of their penis, which may cause a lack of self-confidence as well as psychological and sexual disorders.

The penile lengthening aims to lengthen the size of the penis, mainly in its flaccid state (at rest).

The penile enlargement (or thickening phalloplasty) aims to thicken the penis, when it is both flaccid and erect.

Procedure steps

Both procedures can be performed separately or combined.

  • He will carefully listen to you in order to understand your embarrassment concerning the size of your penis as well as its impact on your sexual and social life. This privileged time for listening is essential to grasp your perception, given that the operative indication is much more based on the “perceived size” rather than the “actual size” of your penis.
  • He will carry out a clinical examination relating to the morphology of your penis in order to suggest the most appropriate strategy of treatment corresponding to your anatomy and to your request.
  • Dr. Petit will provide information on the scar positioning, treatment process and procedure limits, post-operative recoveries as well as main risks, so as to make an informed decision.

Procedure limits

  • The penis lengthening has a visible result when the penis is flaccid, which is less visible when it is erect (unpredictable).
  • The penoplasty does not act on erection disorders or premature ejaculation.
  • The penoplasty does not act on the size of the head of the penis, whose enlargement can be performed with Hyaluronic Acid injections.

Good candidates for an aesthetic penoplasty are those

  • Having discomfort in their intimate life developing into a complex relating to the lack of length or lack of volume of their penis, and embarrassment in their social life (the «dressing room syndrome» among sports people).
  • Having realistic expectations.
  • Not having associated functional disorders (erection disorders, premature ejaculation).

Pre-operative instructions

General pre-operative instructions relating to aesthetic surgery

  • Smoking cessation 1 month before and after the procedure.
  • Discontinuation of medicines which increase bleeding 10 days before and after the procedure: aspirin, anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant medicines, vitamin E.

Specific pre-operative instructions relating to penile enlargement

  • To have a stable weight (to ensure the stability of the result).

Procedure stages

Pre-operative markings are carried out by Dr. Petit before the procedure.
The operation is achieved under general anesthesia, with an out-patient basis (hospital discharge that very evening).

The penile enlargement surgery includes two stages:

Firstly, the surgeon removes an amount of fat using a cannula introduced by micro-incisions, which are invisible in the long term. The fat is usually extracted from the abdomen, the flanks or the inner thigh area. Secondly, the purified fat is reinjected underneath the skin of your penis in order to increase its volume.

The penile lengthening surgery combines a partial section of the suspensory ligament of the penis with a skin plasty. Concealed in pubic hair, the scar is “v” shaped and located on the bottom of the penis.

The skin closure is performed with resorbable sutures.

What to expect after surgery

It is a little painful procedure. Pains are well soothed by analgesics.

Ecchymosis (bruises) are classical and subside within 2 weeks after the operation. An oedema (swelling) is frequent and of variable duration, gradually subsiding within a few months.

The shower is authorized the day after the procedure.

The resumption of daily activities is possible the day following the procedure.

The resumption of professional activities is possible a few days following the procedure.

The resumption of sexual intercourse is possible 2-3 weeks following the procedure.

The resumption of sports activities can be done within 4 weeks following the operation.

Procedure risks

The complications of penile enlargement and lengthening surgeries are weak and will be mentioned by Dr. Petit during the consultation

Mains risks are the following

  • A haematoma.
  • A seroma (collection of fluid).
  • A decrease in the obliquity of the erect penis: relatively frequent relating to the section of the suspensory ligament of the penis.
  • Transitory troubles of sensitivity at the root of the penis.
  • An infection.
  • Insufficient results.
  • A pathological scarring (hypertrophic scars or keloids).

Long-term result

The final result of penile enlargement surgery is obtained between 3 to 6 months after the procedure, when the post-operative oedema has disappeared.

The result is stable and long-lasting except in case of significant changes in body weight. The increase in penile circumference is 2-4 cm at rest, and slightly smaller when it is erect.

The final result of penile lengthening surgery is immediately visible: the increase in penile circumference is 2-4 cm at rest, and the increase is unpredictable when it is erect (that is to say, smaller than the flaccid state). As for the result, it is stable and long-lasting.

The aesthetic penoplasty is a reliable and efficient procedure with significant aesthetic, functional and psychological benefits in patients wishing the operation.
