Buttock augmentation by lipofilling

Silhouette surgery

The buttock augmentation by fat injection is a very popular procedure in the United States and in Latin America, also known as «Brazilian Buttock Lift».

This procedure enables to sculpt your silhouette thoroughly. It consists in using your own fat reserves in order to increase the volume of your buttocks. The liposuction associated with the contour of your buttocks enables to enhance their shape and to sublimate your curves.

The buttock augmentation by lipofilling gives very natural results while achieving a more sensual and attractive silhouette.

Procedure steps

  • Dr. Petit will begin with questioning your medical and surgical histories, your weight and your size, as well as your tobacco consumption.
  • He will listen to you in order to understand your motivations and your requests relating to the volume and the shape of the buttocks.
  • He will carry out a clinical examination of your buttocks and of your silhouette in order to evaluate your reserves of fat and the feasibility of a buttock lipofilling .
  • Dr. Petit will provide information on the scar positioning, treatment process and procedure limits, post-operative recoveries as well as main risks, so as to make an informed decision.

Procedure limits

  • Your fat reserves constitute the main limit of the procedure. Indeed, sufficient reserves of fat are necessary to obtain a significant buttock augmentation.
  • Owing to the systematic resorption of one part of the reinjected fat (about 30 %) which can be different between the two buttocks, asymmetries of volume are possible and can imply a secondary surgical revision a few months after the procedure.
  • A poor quality of the skin corresponding to the sucked up areas also limits the possibilities of taking, owing to an increased risk relating to irregularities of the cutaneous surface (dimples, orange peel skin).
  • The buttock lipofilling does not enable to correct significant cutaneous slackening of the buttocks, which will imply a buttock lift.

Good candidates for a buttock augmentation by lipofilling are those

  • Having flat buttocks or insufficiently curved for them.
  • Wishing to increase the volume of their buttocks without prothesis.
  • Wishing to improve the shape and the firmness of their buttocks.
  • Wishing more feminine curves.
  • Having sufficient reserves of fat (at the hips, stomach and thighs).
  • Having realistic expectations (concerning the desired volume).
  • And having understood the procedure limits.

Pre-operative instructions

General pre-operative instructions relating to aesthetic surgery

  • Smoking cessation 1 month before and after the procedure.
  • Discontinuation of medicines which increase bleeding 10 days before and after the procedure: aspirin, anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant medicines, vitamin E.

Specific pre-operative instructions relating to the silhouette surgery

  • To be at your stable and ideal weight for 6 months at least.
  • Discontinuation of oral contraception 1 month before the procedure in order to decrease the risk of thrombo-embolism (phlebitis and pulmonary embolism).
  • Purchase of a compression garment.

Procedure stages

Pre-operative markings are carried out by Dr. Petit before the procedure.

The procedure is achieved under general anesthesia, with hospitalization of one night at the clinic.

The operation starts with the liposuction located in the identified areas. The cannula is introduced by invisible micro-incisions in the long term.

Then, the fat is passed to the centrifuge in order to obtain fat without impurities, which is reinjected in the buttock area thanks to thin cannulae.

The skin closure is performed with resorbable sutures.

A dressing modeling the buttocks is performed at the end of the procedure.

What to expect after surgery

Pains relating to liposuction are variable according to the patients and the amount of fat extracted. Generally, pains are moderate (suggestive of “stiffness”). These ones are more significant in the extracted fatty cells areas, and are well soothed by analgesics.

Ecchymosis (bruises) are classical and subside within 2 to 3 weeks after the operation. An oedema (swelling) is constant and of variable duration, gradually subsiding within a few months.

The shower with a soft soap is possible the day following the procedure.

Three preventive measures against phlebitis are established after the procedure: the affected leg elevated as well as the walk, the wearing of compression stockings and the daily injection of an anticoagulant (medicines which thin the blood) over 15 days.

Patients are advised not to sit down and to lie down on their backs over fifteen days. They are advised to favour the standing position and to lie down on their stomachs.

The wearing of a panty open in the buttock area is recommended during 1 month in order to reduce the post-operative œdema and fostering a good retraction of the skin in the treated areas.

Dr. Petit will also suggest massage sessions (lymphatic drainage) accelerating the regression of the post-operative œdema.

The resumption of daily activities is possible the day following the procedure.
The resumption of professional activities is possible 15 days following the procedure.

The resumption of sports activities can be done within 6 weeks following the operation.

Procedure risks

The complications of a buttock augmentation by lipofilling are rare and will be mentioned by Dr. Petit during the consultation.

Long-term result

The final result of a buttock augmentation by lipofilling is obtained between 3 to 6 months after the procedure, when the post-operative oedema has disappeared.

The result is long-lasting except in case of significant changes in body weight or pregnancy.

This procedure has become increasingly popular over the years, owing to the increasing interest among patients for the aesthetic aspect of their buttocks.
